“Sherpa Adventure Gear”, the name itself gave goose bumps to the Marketing and Brand Manager when first mentioned for discussion. “That’s the effect a brand name should have”, says Mr. Tashi Sherpa, the owner of Sherpa Adventure Gear (SAG). SAG is a globally competitive company which manufactures and sells adventure clothes and trekking gears– all manufactured by Nepalis. Presently, they are exporting to 13 countries around the world with their headquarters in a swanky new five-storey building in Naxal, Kathmandu. The flagship store has a research and development unit and a bed and breakfast to cater to their foreign clientele.

Mr. Sherpa remembers a certain Mr. Verma whose harsh words made him vow to be successful enough so as to hire Mr. Verma himself later. Till then, he was running his business with just four sewing machines.
Suddenly he decided to start a garment business where he would take orders from India. The first business he started was without any proper planning and that’s when he not only made his first mistake but learned from it also.

—Lesson #1: A proper business plan is the initial step to establish any business.
